Maternal Line Count Form

This form provides a potential method for tracking the quantity of seed for a maternal lines seed collection divided into the three recommended lots: active, base, and back up. The form can be download below as an excel file:

Column Descriptors:

Accession: Number will be assigned by Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden; An accession is defined as a collection of  one plant population at one location and time period.

The collection may take place over several days. Multiple maternal lines (30-50 individuals) should be targeted for each accession.

Lot numbers: Number will be assigned by Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden

Total: Total number of seeds in the collection of one species at one site

Active: 20% of the total number of seeds should be designated for the ‘active’ lot. These seeds are used for testing and distribution

Base: 40% of the total collected seeds should be designated for the ‘base’ lot.

Backup: 40% of the total collected seeds should be designated for the ‘backup’ lot.

100 weight: Weight of 100 seeds. For large maternal lines, this can be used to extrapolate total seed quanity by wieght.

Use formula =(weight * 100)/(100 weight)
